He grew up in Jefferson, North Carolina, and earned degrees in Russian history and chemistry at UNC-Chapel Hill and the master’s degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas.  He and Barbara have two sons.  They have been Durham residents for 25 years.

Elders  Alongside our pastor, four people serve in the role of Elder at Dayspring Fellowship.  We believe that the New Testament teaches that the church is to be led not by a single individual but by a body of elders who hold one another accountable.  We consider our pastor first among equals, and major decisions are made by consensus among the five elders of the church.  Our elders are called to encourage the church and provide additional leadership, integrity and guidance while advising and encouraging our pastor.

Linwood Tew
Linwood Tew is a retired partner in the firm of Clements Funeral Home.  Because of his many decades as a funeral director in Durham, he knows the community well.  (In fact he grew up within a two minute walk of our current location!)  Linwood has actively served God in Durham for more than 50 years.  He is also the chairman of Dayspring’s Global Impact Team which focuses on missions and outreach.  His wife Margaret is also a Durham native.

Alan Colborn
Alan Colborn is an analytical chemist and executive with GlaxoSmithKline in Zebulon. He is a Duke University graduate with a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry and a Florida native who did his undergraduate education at the University of Central Florida. (Little known fact: Alan also did an internship with a forensic scientist in Chicago who did significant research on the Shroud of Turin, the cloth purported to be the burial shroud of Jesus.) Alan and his wife Ella have one daughter.

James Goodrich
James Goodrich was born in Germany and lived on many Army bases before his parents settled in Western Kentucky.  He attended Michigan State University for two years before receiving his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Centre College.  He attended graduate school at University of Kentucky, also in Chemistry.  All this education gave him the wisdom to move to Durham, NC over 15 years ago.  James is an information technology manager with GlaxoSmithKline in Research Triangle Park.  James met his wife Beverly, a Michigan native, while at MSU; they have two sons and a daughter.
