| Of the 55 least evangelized countries, 97% of their population lives within the 10/40 Window. |
Through open worship today we became aware of a serious calling for prayer in months, even years ahead, but also a calling that starts now.
The war in Iraq is largely won; now comes the much more delicate and difficult task of winning the peace. The goal of an Iraq that is able to protect religious rights while tolerating religious diversity (or ethnic diversity in the case of the Kurds) is altogether possible. But there are many dangerous possibilities too.
For example, what if we help the Iraqi people to set up a representative democracy, only to have them democratically choose an intolerant Islamist government? Or what if open war breaks out between Arab Iraqis and Kurdish Iraqis? What if forces loyal to Saddam survive and somehow manage to hide themselves among the general population, while carrying on terrorist war against Americans and the new Iraq itself? These are three feasible scenarios that I can imagine without really trying. "A door for effective ministry has been opened to me, and there are many adversaries."
That Bible verse also reminds us that God has cracked open the 10-40 window through this war in Iraq as well as the one in Afghanistan. There can be no doubt that the Gospel is more accessible when 200,000 American troops are living in Iraq. We need to pray that God will open a door for effective Christian ministry in every way, including traditional and non-traditional missionary efforts, as well as the presence of many Christian troops in the US Army, Navy, and Marines.
