Global Impact Conference 2004: TELL the Truth!

Posted on Jun 22, 2004 Print this article - Email this article

Our mission statement states that Dayspring is trying to be a church that takes the Great Commission seriously.  Jesus commands us to go, to make disciples, to mark them through baptism and mature them through teaching “all that I have commanded you.”

On April 23-25, 2004 Dayspring held its fourth annual Global Impact Conference.  One of the questions raised this weekend was "Whom shall I send, and who will for us?"  Isaish's repsonse 2,700 years ago was "Here I am, LORD -send me."  Once upon a time all of our speakers sat in the audience, just like us.  Each of them chose to respond to a special call of God in their lives.  For each of us, this weekend was a time to listening to God.  He may call someone to career missions, or to short-term volunteer status, or to give themselves as a ministry worker right here in Durham.  Let us each listen for God's still small voice in our own hearts.

Our next Global Impact Conference will be in Spring 2005.

Speakers:

Ron and Margie Carothers are form Gastonia, NC and are graduates of Wake Forest University.  Ron attended seminary at Southwestern Seminary, Ft. Worth, Texas.  Ron pastured in Oxford and Hickory, NC before the Carothes fulfilled their call international missions.  They have served for 20 years in Guatemala, Central America, ministering in both rural and urban areas.

Recently Ron and Margie have focused much energy on helping the Guatemalan Baptist churches establish a missionary sending agency called AMIGUA.  They want to see Guatemalan Baptists fulfill their Biblical responsibility to share Christ with the whole world.  Dayspring took part in this work when helped sponsor a two Guatemalan pastors on an exploratory missions trip to an African nation. AMIFUA has now sent out its first missionaries to share Christ in another country, on another continent.

Dede Adkins is a wife, a mom, a Christian and the founder of a most unique ministry - a ministry of healing called House of Hope, located here in Durham, NC.  House of Hope focuses on broken hearts and spirts of women who are surviors of childhood abuse.  Dede and her staff focus on bringing spiritual and emotional freedom to people who are devasted by past wounds.

Frank and Julie Lamca are were members of Dayspring back in the mid-90's when Frank was a student at Southeastern Seminary.  After graduation, he pastored a church in Tyrone, Pa. before being called to the mission field in Peru.  They are part of the North Coast Peru team, seeking to win people and plant churches.  Our first Faith Commitment Offering included funds to purchase a portable video projector for the Lamcas to use in their outreach and evangelism ministry.

We also heard from Phil Jackson from New Beginnings Outreach, Inc., Cynthia McBeth with Child Evangelism Fellowship, and Jan T. a missionary in Eastern Europe.

As a result of our Global Impact Conference, the people made commitments to an offering to be used entirely for sharing the Gospel around the world.  This offering is being taken over the course of 12 months.  Our goal for 2004/05 is $70,000.00.  God provided a miraculous faith response from the people and to date, the total pledged is $70,213!  We thank God for this opportunity to see His work in our lives.
