Are You Leadership Material?
Ambition seems to be an inhabitant of leadership material. It was in the men Christ chose. But so is a required humility which distrusts oneself, which allows a molding and shaping to continue throughout the life of His leaders.
Leader as Servant
Jesus gave in Luke 22 what on the surface seems to be an impractical command about leadership in the church, a statement rips from the arsenal of leadership the use of positional authority to influence others. The church has survived for 2,000 years!
Leader as Lover
Kouzes and Posner (1995) say it this way, "We suspect the best kept secret of successful leaders is love... Leadership is an affair of the heart, not of the head" (p.305). Tom peters, in the intro to Kouzes and Posner's book, calls caring (the heart), the "essence of leadership" (p.xvi).
