2002 Global Impact Conference
Oct 10, 2002
Our mission statement suggests that Dayspring is trying to be a church that takes the Great Commission seriously. Jesus commands us to go, to make disciples, to mark them through baptism and mature them through teaching “all that I have commanded you.”
Perhaps the most exciting event in Dayspring history was our first Global Impact Conference held in April 2001. The conference showcased ministries both across the street, and around the world—ministries from Durham to Guatemala, Peru, Niger, West Africa, and others.
Speakers:
 |
| Scott McClintock, founder, Church Operations Center |
Scott McClintock is the founder of the Church Operations Center, a non-denominational service and support unit commissioned to bring the Body of Christ into its unified mission—to tear down enemy strongholds and bring communities into the Kingdom of God. Scott is a retired GTE employee. He rose to Lt. Colonel in the US Army, flying Cobra attack helicopters in the Vietnam war, and received 49 air medals for valor, including the Bronze Star. Scott and his wife Brenda live in North Durham. Scott loves God and His church.

| John Saunders, Yates Baptist Association Director of Missions |
John Saunders has been Yates Baptist Association Director of Missions for seven years. As DOM, John encourages and motivates Dayspring and other Yates churches in missions locally and around the world. He has personally participated in several international mission trips doing VBS, church planting survey work and evangelism, as well as teaching. Ask him about South Africa! John and his wife Sally have two children, Ryan and Amy.
 |
| Tom Miller, career missionary with Southern Baptist International Mission Board |
Tom Miller is a career missionary of the Southern Baptist International Mission Board (IMB). He has served in Korea, the Philippines, and mostly Kenya, working as a church planter among the Asian Indians who have formed a community in Kenya. Tom also served as a pastor in South Georgia for 13 years before joining the IMB. He is married to Bunty and they have three children: Joel, Jesse Abigail, and Jared. Joel has been receiving medical care at Duke University for the last several months; it was his need that brought his family to this area on emergency leave from Kenya.
Jan T. is a Durham native. She recently returned to her home city and church (Dayspring!) to fulfill the final steps toward career missions. On November 1, Jan's application to join the International Mission Board of the SBC and become a missionary to Belgium will be voted on by the trustees of the IMB. She hopes to be on the field in Belgium by April 2003. Jan's training is Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). She will use this teaching skill and her natural love for people to plant new churches in Belgium by the leadership and help of the Holy Spirit.

| Jim and Carol Dowsett, Wycliffe Bible Translators |
Jim Dowsett joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1991, using his skills with computers to assist Bible translation. Jim and his wife Carol consider Dayspring their sending church in missions. They have served in Nairobi, Kenya for three years. Currently assigned to international headquarters in Dallas, Texas, Jim is completing graduate work in computer science. His goal is growing his ability to strengthen Bible translation through computer technology. He is also a gifted singer and pianist. Carol directs global communications for Wycliffe. Their children are: Justin, Drake, and Christa.

| Dawn and Mack Thames, church planting in Texas |
Dawn and Mark Thames are Duke graduates who have served Christ in exotic locales such as West Virginia, Africa, and now, Texas. They are creative thinkers who have given their lives to reach postmodern people for Christ, planting Lower Greenville Baptist Community in Dallas. They seek to share Truth with folks who are mostly committed to the truth that there is no truth. The Thames have two children, Jonathan and Elizabeth.
Phil Jackson was called from a career in business to minsitry and missions and is seeking to establish a ministry called New Beginnings. His call is outreach to those who have been written off by society, such as the homeless and released prisoners. As a youth he faced some of the same pressures and found ultimate answers in the love of God. Phil's dream is to seek and save the down-and-out person, and then provide housing, Christian discipleship, and vocational training so that the lost ones become strong in Jesus. Phil and his wife Stephanie have five children, including a little boy one month old.
Cynthia McBeth is a missionary working in our Judea with Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF). She was employed for many years with IBM Corp., but when she visited a Good News Club as a volunteer, her heart was captured by the needs of children who have never had an opportunity to be children. CEF reaches out to inner-city children (and all the children of Durham) with the good news that God loves them. Many of those Cynthia ministers to have parents who are enslaved to destructive habits and are unable to care for their children properly.
As a result of our Global Impact Conference, the people made commitments to an offering to be used entirely for sharing the Gospel around the world. This offering is being taken over the course of 12 months. Our goal was $50,000.00, but God provided a miraculous faith response from the people. The total given for this Faith Commitment Offering exceeded $68,000.00! We thank God for this opportunity to see His work in our lives.

Dayspring Fellowship exists to equip its members in using
their God-given gifts, abilities, and resources to fulfill the
Great Commission, bringing Christ to Durham and the world. Three
qualities that we seek after in the life of Dayspring are: authenticity,
community, integrity. Three gifts we seek to offer to ourselves
